I’ve always had trouble coming in from a night of drinks, friends and fun and taking off my makeup before heading to bed. After Date Night last night with my boyfriend, Hollis, I didn’t take off my makeup and I woke up to a foundation-less face, a bomb-ass eyeshadow job, and my NYX Lingerie lippie still intact! Shoutout to Smashbox’s 24-Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer for never letting a real one down! In any event, the moment I realized my horrible mistake, I sprang into action and got myself in order!
The first product I use when taking off my makeup is Neutrogena’s Makeup Remover Towelettes. They work wonders when it comes to getting off eyeliner, lipstick and all things glitter! A pack of 25 wipes retails for about $7.
Next, I wash my face with Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash. I absolutely adore this facial wash because it clears my face of all makeup residue without leaving it feeling dry and stretched out! I also really appreciate the fact that I only need about a dime-sized amount to get the job done! Lord knows I can’t afford to waste any money on products that don’t work! As far as smells go, I’m not a fan of over-powering scents when it comes to my skin care products, so I was super pleased with the light, airy smell of Tea Tree and Mint. A 5-oz bottle retails for about $22 at Sephora, but I highly recommend ordering the wash from the Origins website because they are ALWAYS having a sale of some sort! Origins also offers free deluxe sized samples with each purchase, so there’s some (more) bang for your buck!
The Vanity Planet Ultimate Skin Spa System is the holy grail of my facial cleansing regimen! I use it when washing my face with the Origins facial wash and it gets my face squeaky clean! Using my hands to wash my face had never been a huge issue for me (mainly because I didn’t have the cash for the coveted $200 Clarisonic Mia 2 Facial Cleansing Brush), but I started noticing that even after washing my face 2-3 times, I would still see makeup on my washcloth after drying my face. After thoroughly washing my face ONCE, all of my worries vanished down the drain along with my makeup residue!
The system comes with not one, but three interchangeable brush heads that serve your specific need at the time! I only use the silicone brush head once a week (or when I need a deep cleaning), so that I do not over exfoliate or dry out my skin. The system costs about $45 with S/H with the coupon code: SPINANDSHINE.
Next, Pixi by Petra’s Glow Tonic is my all-time favorite product! Last year, Ellarie (one of my favorite YouTube MUAs) revealed her secret skincare must-haves. I took her word as gold, and I am so happy that I did! I used to use witchhazel as a toner, but after some time, it began to dry my skin out a bit. In hindsight, I’m sure that I used that instance as an excuse to spend more money that I don’t have, but I digress…
After using this toner for about 6 months now, I can attest to the fact that it soothes the skin after cleansing and tightens your pores in order to offer a healthy glow! It is a bit pricey, $29 for 250mL, but I can honestly say it’s worth every penny. To extend the life of this product, I only use it at night or when I need an extra boost in the mornings, so I go through a bottle in about a month and a half or so.
Lastly, I moisturize my face with Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. Clinique is an oldie but goodie, so I’m not going to go on and on about how awesome this stuff is. It’s a light formula, but it drenches the skin in moisture without feeling too greasy. My mom introduced me to Clinique when I turned 14, and I can tell y’all now that she knows best! The 4.2-oz bottle retails for $27, but I always keep an extra bottle on hand because I never know when TSA is going to up and decide to rifle through my belongings, accidentally open a bottle of it and spill it onto my other items when I’m travelling home to visit my loved ones…
I listed the products in the order that I use them when removing my makeup. I make changes depending on what my skin needs at the moment, but I use all of products listed above on a daily/weekly basis.
In any event, let me know what you think of the products I reviewed and don’t forget to let me know what your personal favorites are!
UPDATE: I’ll also do a review on the products that I like to use to exfoliate and detoxify my skin with very soon! I wasn’t sure if I should include those on this post, but now I know!
